COP 3 Practical: Summary of Focus Group/Feedback
Due to the varying opinions received from the focus group and tutor feedback I've decided to explore different suggestions in order to help evaluate the most appropriate outcome. I plan to explore the use of no colour using spot varnish to create physically engaging packaging through the use of different textures rather than colour. This removes gender connotations created through the use of colour as suggested within the focus group. However I also plan to experiment with keeping colour within the design, altering the layout by removing the box and looking at the typeface chosen as suggested in tutor feedback. In relation to the pattern itself the use of a single pattern to identify each product will be explored further but using multiple colours rather than just one colour as seen in previous experiments. The focus group also suggested to try and work the pattern into the logo more, incorporating it within the type too see if this would link the type and pattern more closely. Both a colourful and colourless approach would work within this branding as the use of colour allows the packaging to stand out on the shelf against existing products that simply use black and white. However it could be argued that the use of texture and different materials would also create an impact against existing brands as they don't tend to incorporate texture within packaging. Both approaches will be explored further in order to evaluate which is a more appropriate response.
