COP 3 Practical: Prototype/Design Development

In order to see how different suggestions would look physically prototypes have been used in order to see how the design works when built. This revealed a number of issues that needed to be resolved within the final deigns. The main issue was seeing where the pattern cut of on the corners of the box (see figures 1) to see if the pattern could be manipulated so the shapes would finish before the corners and cut off points so whole shapes could be seen rather than sections. In addition when the prototypes where built the lid was in the wrong position (see figure 2), as it has been opening at the back rather than front. Using prototypes has also allowed me to spot mistakes I hadn't recognised on screen as the type used within the moisturisers prototype is more condensed than the others as a different typeface has been used by accident (see figure 1-2). Furthermore the use of prototypes gives an idea of how the colours will print although due to the printer used the colours are slightly duller than they should be (see figure 1-2). This allowed me to see how the green experiments would print, too see if they would have a greater impact on consumers than the more colourful experiments (see figure 3-4). The more colourful prototypes create a greater impact as the green looks too much like camouflage even when printed. Based on the issues identified within these prototypes, the pattern can be manipulated on the final outcomes at the correct dimensions so the pattern doesn't get cut of at a corner and the text is legible and not distorted by the use of yellow within the design as the type becomes difficult to read when places against yellow (see figure 5).
