COP 3 Practical: Response to Feedback

Based on feedback I've looked at removing colour from the packaging and using spot varnish to emphasise the pattern. In order to quickly see if this would be an appropriate outcome I've used tape to replicate the effect of spot varnishing (see figure 1). However the design lacks impact despite the interesting use of materials, making it too similar to existing brands therefore not countering existing aesthetics enough. In addition the use of italics has been removed in order to create less connotations to Nike as although this relates to the target audience of 18-25 year olds I wanted to limit connotations with an existing brand (see figure 2-3). Furthermore the box around the type has been removed as the type stands out enough on its own without the box, as the box created an awkward element to the packaging by cutting of the pattern on the front of the box (see figure 2).

In order to differentiate each product the original pattern has been split between each product so an individual shape represents a product (see figure 3). However multiple colours have been used instead on a single colour in order to avoid any gender connotations created by putting one product in pink and one product in blue. Furthermore the colours have also been brightened based on tutor suggestions to create a more impactful design (see figure 4). Although using a section of the pattern for each product allows to differentiation I'm unsure how successful this is when there places next to each other due to the similar nature of the individual shapes used. However peer feedback suggested that each product could be easily distinguished as out of those asked most where able to identify each product.
