COP 3 Practical: Packaging Developments

Patterns developed based on peer feedback have been used to experiment with different layout options for text within a typical box net. The pattern used has been used as the orange and blue limit the female connotations associated with the pastel pink featured. Furthermore pastel pink is slowly becoming more common amongst male products. In relation to layout placing HEKA and the product on the centre (see figure 1) is legible depending on the colour of the pattern behind, however in relation to the ingredients on the back of the box the text gets lost due to its smaller point size. Therefore the use of box to contain the information has further been experimented with as this allows both the text on the front and back of the box to be easily legible. Featuring the information either on its side or at the top of the box is most successfully. The use of the information on at the top of the box adds some structure to the packaging, contrasting against the repeat patter (see figure 2). However placing the information of its side allows for greater use of space, potentially having more shelf impact. This allows the product name to be the main focus of the packaging allowing for distinction between the range of products on offer (see figure 2). However I'm unsure if this looks like a skincare brand, feedback is needed in order to help develop the packaging further. Furthermore the use of the box needed developing further due to the excess space left by placing the text at the top. This led to the idea to use a single aspect of the repeat pattern to identify an individual product (see figures 3-4), this single line would then be featured across the bottle. However a potential issue with this is that the single line could just look like a continuation of pattern rather than identifying feature (see figure 3-4).  Furthermore this system also limits the number of products within the range to four, as using anymore colours or lines would complicate the pattern too much making it too overpowering.
